The Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) community, in collaboration with the local community, invites everyone to join the 11th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration. This event, “The Beloved Community,” is a tribute to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and serves as a call to action for unity, diversity, and reconciliation.
The celebration, scheduled for Thursday, January 11th, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, will take place in the Barnes Student Center Commons. Attendees can expect an evening filled with worship, prayer, remembrance, learning, celebration, and a powerful call to action. Reverend Dr. Angulus Wilson will deliver a keynote address centered around “The Beloved Community” and Kingdom diversity. The emcees for the evening will be Dr. Shelley M. Webb and Dr. Mark Alexander, both members of the Multicultural Enrichment Council (MEC). The IWU Gospel Choir, led by Mr. Brandon Charlton, will lead the musical worship, and local artist Mrs. Tashema Davis, a CommUNITY Circle member, will engage the audience through artistic expression.
The theme of this year’s celebration, “The Beloved Community,” emphasizes the importance of Kingdom-focused diversity, urging the community to foster care, compassion, and take action in driving reconciliation efforts. The event is organized by the Diversity and Intercultural Integration office with support from various entities, including the Intercultural Ambassadors, Intercultural and Global Office, Multicultural Learning and Engagement Champions of National & Global Office, the CommUNITY Circle, Student Government Association Diversity and Inclusion, Pioneer Catering, ECCS team, and the IWU Multicultural Enrichment Council (MEC).
The event is free to attend, and attendees can look forward to giveaways. All members of the IWU and local community are encouraged to join in this special occasion to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy and contribute to the creation of a more inclusive and compassionate society.
