The Modern Language, Literature, and Communication division at Indiana Wesleyan University has embarked on an exciting new initiative, offering internship opportunities in editing and marketing for students within the department. In a strategic partnership with Foundations Book Publishing, this program aims to provide valuable hands-on experience and foster the development of aspiring editors and marketing professionals.
The opportunity offers students the ability to practice in both editing and marketing fields. After students are trained, editing interns will prepare an actual manuscript for publication, then write cover copy for it. Marketing interns will actively participate in the marketing campaigns for newly launched books, writing press releases, conducting social media interactions, and crafting ads.
The internship initiative opens doors for IWU students to delve into the editing and marketing realms under the guidance of industry experts. Interns will gain practical insights and skill that transcend classroom learning.
Key highlights of the internship’s initiative:
- Comprehensive Training: Interns will receive thorough training in editing and marketing, equipping them with essential skills for success in the competitive publishing industry.
- Real-world Editing Experience: Editing interns will have the unique opportunity to proofread an actual manuscript slated for publication, contributing directly to the book’s refinement process.
- Dynamic Marketing Engagement: Marketing interns will actively participate in crafting and executing marketing campaigns for newly launched books. This includes writing press releases, managing social media interactions, and creating compelling advertisements.
- Collaboration with Foundations Book Publishing: Through the partnership with Foundations Book Publishing, IWU student will benefit from exposure to industry professionals and gain insights into the workings of a reputable publishing house.
Dr. Nathan Fayard, Assisstant Professor of English at IWU, expressed enthusiasm about the internship initiative, stating, “These internships enrich our division’s offerings, enhancing our classroom experience with the opportunity for our students to employ the skills they’re developing through our classes in real-world contexts and gain invaluable professional experience at the same time.” Dr. Fayard established the partnership between IWU, as he also serves as Editor-in-Chief of Foundations Book Publishing.
