IWU-National & Global is excited to announce a new licensure program in their Transition to Teaching initiative which prepares and enables candidates to acquire P-12 English Language Learner licensure in Indiana. This graduate certificate program, created to meet the ELL teacher shortage, can be completed in less than two years. Candidates can expect to spend anywhere from 16-20 hours per week which includes hours spent in field placements. Candidates learn through 7 online classes and one 14-week student teaching experience.
A candidate in the ELL licensure program will learn how to articulate the progress of language acquisition and how it affects the education process of a linguistically diverse student. They will learn about school, district, and governmental policies that impact the rights and provide a path of advocacy to support these students. It also gives candidates a hands-on opportunity to identify linguistic needs and create instructional strategies, reading strategies, and assessment strategies to best support the linguistically diverse student. The coursework also prepares candidates for licensure exams. In the end, the candidate gains certification to impact students and the entire community through the power of language.
Anyone with a bachelor’s degree can apply for this graduate certificate program which leads to initial educator licensure in Indiana for grades P-12 English Language Learners. The job market for ELL educators continues an upward trend both nationally and in Indiana. The median salary for an ELL teacher is $57,000.
Harness the power of language for students, their families, the community, and the world through our Transition to Teaching program and ELL licensure. Invest your time each week with doctoral credentialed faculty who care about your own success in education in order to fuel the success of others. In the end, this licensure will give you the tools to empower students and expand their horizons to life-giving connections. The world is waiting. Apply today for the program at: indwes.edu/TTT
