On Thursday (April 15) Indiana Wesleyan University will hold its 19th annual Celebration of Scholarship: a campus-wide undergraduate research conference that showcases the scholarly efforts of students from across IWU-Marion’s various disciplinary schools. This year’s conference will include oral and poster presentations from more than 150 undergraduates who have become active stakeholders in their learning by pursuing research and creative projects.
According to Dr. John Lakanen, Dean of the School of Physical & Applied Sciences, “Undergraduate research is the central integrating experience for our students . . . it gives them opportunities to translate what they’ve learned in the classroom into authentic practices of scientific discovery.” Because undergraduate scholarship has this significance as a high impact educational practice, IWU has set aside a day without classes each year for Celebration of Scholarship to highlight its students’ research and creative work and to give the campus community the chance to learn more about God’s world by attending student presentations.
Oral presentations will be held from 8:20 am to 4:20 pm and will run concurrently in the Bedford and Jones Banquet Rooms (Barnes Student Center).
