Indiana Wesleyan University-National & Global has announced a new online undergraduate program designed to prepare students for a wide variety of occupations in healthcare: the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHSC).
Any student who desires to pursue a career in health sciences can apply. The BSHSC program is ideal for healthcare professionals already on their established career path, as well as students who want to pursue graduate degrees in occupational therapy, physical therapy and physician assistants. Students will learn to:
- Exhibit servant leadership and advocacy within a healthcare environment
- Work collaboratively to develop ethical solutions to healthcare problems
- Become proficient in healthcare terminology, processes, and concepts needed to communicate effectively
- Understand the complexities of the US healthcare system
- Integrate their faith into their career and coursework
Prospective students currently working in occupational therapy, radiology, respiratory therapy, paramedic services, and dental hygiene may take particular interest in the health sciences program for the purpose of changing or advancing their career.
The program was developed with the working adult in mind—courses are only six weeks long, and the online learning format affords students a more flexible schedule. It also features virtual lab components for general education courses such as Chemistry and Anatomy & Physiology.
“The program is a great pathway for allied health students with a certification or licensure who want to continue on to earn a bachelor’ degree, like paramedics or occupational therapy assistants,” said Amanda Doneski, assistant professor in the School of Health Sciences. “The degree is so broad and offers some great knowledge on the delivery, legal and ethical aspects, and cultural issues in healthcare systems. We’re not limited to any one particular kind of student in this health sciences program.”
The BSHSC program will join five other programs offered by the School of Health Sciences, including an Occupational Therapy Assistant program, a Master of Science in Athletic Training, a Master of Public Health, and doctoral programs in occupational therapy and physical therapy.
The first start date is June 1, 2021. For more information or to apply, visit indwes.edu/BSHS.
