Indiana Wesleyan University is pleased to announce that Jacqui Fernandez, a senior in the DeVoe Division of Business, has been selected to join the Orr Fellowship.
Fernandez is one of only six percent of top-tier college seniors selected to join Orr Fellowship’s largest cohort of Fellows to date. From August to October, college seniors from across the Midwest were recruited to Orr. Of the nearly 1,300 applicants, just 100 were invited to Orr Fellowship’s Finalist Day held in November. Of those 100, 79 individuals received job offer calls.
Orr Fellowship, one of Indiana’s most celebrated nonprofit talent programs, is a two-year post-graduate program that places high-achieving college seniors from across the Midwest in full-time, paid positions at dynamic companies and organizations in Indianapolis.
“My professors and peers have constantly challenged me throughout my time at IWU to achieve my goals,” Fernandez said. “My advisor and professor, Professor Payne, especially pushed me out of my comfort zone by helping me discover internships and experience that allows me to expand my skills and knowledge. I would not be the person I am today without the help of everyone who has poured into me during my time at IWU.”
After graduating with degrees in Marketing and International Relations, Fernandez will begin as at Lev, a marketing-focused consultancy.
“Jaqui exemplifies all the qualities and intangibles that the Orr Fellowship program looks for in an individual,” Andre Payne, Assistant Professor of Marketing, said. “Not only is she a high achieving student who was held in high esteem by her peers, but she is also a young person that exemplifies character, scholarship, and leadership. From the moment I met her during our first advising appointment her freshman year, she exhibited a humble confidence that is still with her today.”
In addition to her position, she will participate in Orr Fellowship’s programming dedicated to nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit and developing strong leadership skills. She will also enter Orr Fellowship’s networking communities via the program and help recruit the cohort of Orr Fellows.
Dozens of Orr Fellows have gone on to found their own businesses and most former Fellows have become leaders at successful companies.
Dedicated to matching exceptional, high-achieving college seniors to full-time, paid jobs at dynamic companies and organizations of all types and sizes in the Indianapolis area since its first cohort in 2002, Orr Fellows receive two years of extensive programming and networking opportunities by night as they devote themselves to their careers by day.
"One of my favorite things about IWU is the welcoming community,” Fernandez said. “I am excited to now also be a part of the Orr community where I can soak up as much as possible from other peers and business leaders.”
