Indiana Wesleyan University's Division of Music is performing Handel’s Messiah on Friday, December 6th at 7:30pm in the Phillippe Performing Arts Center.
“The Messiah is a rich piece of history that brings to life the story of Jesus Christ,” says Maria Isaacson, a freshman at IWU. “The music is not only inspiring, but the storyline is too. So much hard work and talent was put into this wonderful production that I think everyone should experience at least once.”
The Division of Music’s performance of Messiah is their largest event of the semester, featuring students from all class levels.
“I’ve loved the chance to learn Handel’s Messiah because it’s iconic, a musical masterpiece,” says IWU senior Daniel Kane. “Handel’s legacy is universally renowned which is reason enough to experience it, but more importantly, Handel’s Messiah provides the chance to either hear again, or hear for the first time, the real significance of Christmas. “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11).”
All IWU friends and family, as well as the Marion community, are welcome to enjoy this beautiful production of Handel’s Messiah. Dr. Jason Thompson, the Director of the IWU Orchestra and Associate Professor of Music, will be conducting the performance.
“Teaching this music and studying this score has been a true joy. This music is iconic. This piece marries the greatest and most important story of all time with timeless and masterful music,” says Davy Chinn, IWU’s Chorale Director. “Watching the students deliver this message through this vehicle is one of the best parts of my job. I hope everyone will come to share this evening with us; to take part in this time-honored tradition of ushering in the Christmas season with this beloved work of art.”
Tickets can be purchased online, or through the Phillippe Performing Arts Center Box Office. Tickets will also be available at the door.
