Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball sophomore Kyle Mangas added to his already long list of accomplishments on Wednesday as he was voted the 2018-19 Crossroads League Male Student-Athlete of the Year. He is the second Wildcat to receive the award, which started in 2012, joining Lane Mahurin who was recognized in 2017.
Mangas led the Wildcats to Crossroads League regular season and tournament championships in 2019 and a berth to the NAIA Elite Eight. He finished the season with 23.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.8 assists while shooting 56-percent from the field and 42-percent from 3-point range. He scored 801 points this season, which is second only to his record of 818 points from last season.
“Kyle is such a great example of humility,” said Greg Tonagel, IWU men’s basketball head coach. “He has accomplished so much already in his young career, yet he continues to make his success about others. He is the real deal when it comes to his faith and he is able to live that out authentically. He is a great representation for the Crossroads League.”
For the second consecutive season, Mangas was named NAIA All-American First Team, Crossroads League Player of the Year, NAIA All-Tournament Team and All-Crossroads League First Team.
Mangas has accumulated 1,619 points through his first two seasons in a Wildcat uniform which ranks 13th all-time in program history. He is the first Wildcat to be named CL Player of the Year on multiple occasions and just the fifth in league history, dating back to 1990.
The Warsaw, Indiana, native will be recognized for the award during the annual Crossroads League meeting held in September on the campus of Huntington University.
