Indiana Wesleyan University congratulates recent graduate Daniel Obert on receiving two major scholarships at two leading law schools: Notre Dame Law School and Maurer School of Law at IU Bloomington. Obert has decided to attend Notre Dame Law School, where he will begin his studies in August.
Obert graduated from IWU in April with a double major in Political Science Pre-Law and History and a minor in Philosophy. The program, he says, has prepared him for his future career.
“I was taught how to meaningfully engage with the big problems of our world, and how to articulate my ideas clearly, both in speaking and in writing,” said Obert. “I know that these skills will be among the most valuable I could possibly have as I move into the next step of my educational career.”
In addition to classroom learning, Obert was able to gain hands-on experience through his internship with IWU’s University Counsel, where he gained exposure to contracts, employment law and regulatory compliance.
“After working in a legal environment here at IWU, I have a more accurate understanding of what the day-to-day work of an attorney looks like,” he said. “This has only strengthened my belief that I am called to pursue a career in the law.”
During his time at IWU, Obert started a new student organization on campus called the Political Engagement Club. The organization provided an opportunity for students to discuss and learn about politics without having to commit to partisan labels. He also was heavily involved in the Association of International Relations (AIR)— where he attended Model United Nations conferences across the country— and Student Government Association, where he served as the representative for the Division of Social Sciences.
“Daniel has contributed to the tradition of excellence for which our political science pre-law program is known,” said Dr. Jon Conrad, professor of political science. “Daniel's scholarships are well deserved. He is a hard-working, thoughtful individual who will be outstanding in law school.”
Obert joins the list of other IWU Political Science alum who have gone on to attend some of the top law schools in the nation, including University of Chicago, University of Virginia, Indiana University-Bloomington and more.
