Indiana Wesleyan University’s Division of Math and Computer Information Sciences (CIS) will co-host the fifth annual High School Math Day with Taylor University from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 14. The event will take place primarily in the Barnes Student Center on IWU’s Marion campus.
High School Math Day, designed to showcase possible future studies for students who are interested in STEM-related fields, will feature a series of mathematical activities and campus tours. Students will participate in a variety of experiences including a “math trail”, which will have students finding math through IWU’s campus; a game show that explores various probability problems; and other hands-on activities that portray mathematical concepts.
IWU is expecting approximately 100 students from five local high schools: Eastbrook, Blackford, Elwood Anderson and Tri-Central.
“It’s great working together with another university for the common goal of high school students seeing a side of math they may not see otherwise,” said Dr. Daniel Kiteck, associate professor of mathematics. “We get to help them experience math in a fun and interactive way, hopefully helping their perspectives on math to grow more positive.”
