According to statistics released by the Indiana State Board of Nursing, Indiana Wesleyan University’s 2018 NCLEX-RN first-time pass rate was 94.93 percent. The national first-time pass rate was only 89 percent, which means IWU nursing students have surpassed the national first-time pass rate for the last 11 years.
The NCLEX, also known as The National Council Licensure Examination, determines if it is safe for individuals to begin practice as an entry-level nurse. Test takers answer a minimum of 75 questions to a maximum of 265 questions.
IWU’s Division of Pre-licensure Nursing offers an integrated educational experience, combining hard facts with hands-on learning. In fact, students are able to physically practice skills in the Pre-licensure Fortune Simulation Lab. The 12,000-square-foot facility features cutting-edge equipment, including the following:
- 3 SimMan advanced patient simulators: Advanced patient simulator with realistic anatomy and clinical functionality
- 8 VitalSim medium-fidelity patient simulators: Designed for scenario-based training of the care and management of a wide variety of in-hospital patients
- 5 low-fidelity patient simulators: Manikins used to facilitate basic care practices
- 2 ready-or-not tots: Manikins that teach the student the demands of parenting, as well as proper baby handling and care
“IWU’s commitment to student success is evidenced by the NCLEX-RN first-time pass rate that exceeds national averages,” said Dr. Rob Dawson, dean, Pre-licensure Division, School of Nursing. “In fact, each nursing faculty member dedicates 10 hours a week for meeting with students to promote better understanding of nursing concepts and provide one on one assistance.”
