Indiana Wesleyan University’s John Wesley Honors College is excited to introduce its fall 2018 incoming class: 55 academic high achievers who rose to the top of a large and competitive field of applicants. These students will fulfill their general education requirements through an honors curriculum in Christian liberal learning devoted to the big questions of human existence that will earn them an Honors Humanities major.
The incoming class, which has an average GPA of 4.1, includes students from Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Wyoming, New Brunswick (Canada), and Guatemala City (Guatemala).
As always, these students represent a broad spectrum of academic interests. Collectively, members of the JWHC incoming class will pursue 27 different majors and participate in all of the disciplinary schools serving residential undergraduates at IWU (School of Arts & Humanities, School of Social/Behavioral Science, and Business, School of Physical & Applied Science, School of Teacher Education, School of Theology & Ministry, and School of Nursing).
The JWHC incoming class is also, once again, a well-rounded group of student leaders. In addition to Valedictorians, Salutatorians, and a Lilly Scholar, it includes numerous student body and honor society presidents, captains of athletic and academic teams, worship team leaders, community service organizers, and participants in short-term mission trips. Several incoming honors college students will likewise pursue excellence in extra-curricular opportunities such as University Chorale, instrumental music ensembles, and intercollegiate athletics. In fact, this JWHC incoming class will include the largest contingent of student-athletes ever: fourteen honors college freshmen will compete in football, volleyball, softball, cross country, track and field, swimming, baseball, and cheer team.
The John Wesley Honors College is the oldest honors college in the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities and has developed a national reputation as both a leader in collegiate honors education and a model of excellence in Christian liberal learning. This will be the 21st incoming class of students the JWHC has admitted.
