Indiana Wesleyan University Professor of Business Kent Williams, CPA, has been selected by the Indiana CPA Society (INCPAS) to receive the 2018 CPA Center of Excellence® Award. Williams formally accepted the award at the CPA Celebration at the Indiana Roof Ballroom on Friday, May 11.
The annual Indiana CPA Society Awards recognize CPAs with active licenses in good standing who have demonstrated excellence in serving the profession, company, community and public interest.
The CPA Center of Excellence® award was established in 2017 to recognize an individual or firm embodying excellence through collaboration, development of business (“soft”) skills and a competency-based approach to lifelong learning.
This is the third consecutive year that Williams has been recognized with a major award by INCPAS. Last year, he received the Distinguished Service Award, which is the organization’s highest honor, with only one CPA selected per year. In 2016, he received the INCPAS Outstanding Educator Award.
Williams has been an active member with INCPAS since 2005. He has chaired the Ethics Committee, Finance Committee, Officer Nominating Committee and Leadership Succession Committee. His committee service culminated with five years on the INCPAS Board of Directors. During his year as chair in 2015, he helped lead two of the Society’s biggest milestones: the establishment of the CPA Center of Excellence® as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Society and the celebration of the Society’s centennial anniversary.
“We are so proud of Dr. Williams for his service to the CPA Society and our students,” said Dr. Doug Daugherty, interim dean, School of Social Behavioral Sciences and Business. “It’s recognition of Dr. Williams’ undeniable passion for the accounting profession and lifelong learning, and we are honored to have high caliber professors like him in the DeVoe Division of Business.”
