Indiana Wesleyan University’s Jazz Ensemble and Combo will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 19 in Baker Recital Hall at the Phillippe Performing Arts Center on IWU’s residential campus.
The concert, under the direction of Professor Todd Williams, will feature music made famous by renowned singer Ella Fitzgerald and jazz great Chick Corea. Pieces will include jazz favorites, such as “Blues in the Night,” “Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars (Corcovado),” “Here’s to the Life” and “Take the ‘A’ Train.”
IWU’s Jazz Ensemble is a 14-student big band that performs a repertoire of traditional, contemporary and Latin styles of jazz with an emphasis on swing, blues and improvisation. IWU’s Jazz Combo is a group of five musicians, comprised of members that range from rhythm section, including drums and piano, to lead players, such as trumpet and saxophone.
“We are sure that the feeling and warmth of jazz music will broaden and inspire listeners to investigate other jazz artists to further appreciate this great American art form,” said Williams.
The concert is free and open to the public. Doors open at 7 p.m.
