Students at Indiana Wesleyan University are rallying together to throw the second annual IWU Dance Marathon from noon-midnight on Saturday, March 24 in the Recreation and Wellness Center. The event, which is one of several across the state of Indiana, is designed to raise money to support Riley Children’s Foundation, the fundraising arm of Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health and the founding organization that opened Riley Hospital in 1924.
IWU Dance Marathon participants will dance for 12 hours straight to raise money for Riley Children’s. This year, the team set a fundraising goal of $20,000. Last year, IWU Dance Marathon raised over $13,000, surpassing their initial goal by more than $3,000.
Seven Riley children and their families will be in attendance on Saturday. The families will share their stories, interact with each other in a fun environment and dance with IWU students throughout the evening.
“Everyone has pushed their personal boundaries to go above and beyond for the kids,” said Lauren Slygh, a Dance Marathon participant and an Athletic Training student at IWU. “I’m passionate about Dance Marathon because I am a Riley kid. I know what it’s like to be scared, helpless and alone. To see all of the support, love and compassion that college campuses across the state are giving to kids like me is pretty amazing.”
