The Division of Art + Design at Indiana Wesleyan University is hosting a panel discussion for its current art exhibit, titled “Through the Iris,” at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16 in the Williams Art Gallery in Beard Arts Center. Panelists will include director of the exhibit Kim Reiff; Valparaiso University art historian Nina Corazzo; Wheaton College community art professor Leah Samuelson, and IWU alumna Erin Sweigard.
The touring art exhibit features artwork by 25 female visual artists holding the degree of Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California. The collection offers insight from the intersection of art, faith and scholarship. Curated by William Catling, professor of Art at Azusa Pacific, and Sandra Bowden, New York-based artist, the exhibit depicts the personal journeys and narratives of the artists.
“Our panel will bring together a phenomenal group of speakers to discuss issues facing women in the contemporary art world,” said Dr. Anne Greeley, assistant professor of art history at IWU.
A reception will precede the panel discussion at 7 p.m. The event is free of charge and open to the public.
“‘Through The Iris’ is one of the first group exhibitions hosted by the Williams Gallery in recent memory, and features powerful recent work by artists from across the United States,” said Henrik Soderstrom, associate professor of art and design at IWU.
“Through the Iris” will remain at IWU through Saturday, Dec. 16 before traveling to other art galleries in Texas, Oregon and California.
