The Office of Intercultural Learning and Engagement at Indiana Wesleyan University is hosting Passport to Culture from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16 in the Recreation & Wellness Center on the IWU residential campus in Marion, Indiana.
The annual event is an opportunity for students to experience different cultural traditions, food, dancing and performances at various booths that represent nations, cultures or people groups from around the world. There will also be a special local highlight of Marion and the surrounding Grant County area. Booths will be hosted by students, faculty, staff and community members.
Nearly 50 countries and groups will be represented including the following:
- Amish Culture
- Australia
- Bosnia
- China
- Ireland
- Jamaica
- Jewish Culture
- Kenya
- Mexico
- Poland
- Refugees
- Sri Lanka
- USA
- Whales
There will also be a prayer and reflection room for people to intentionally pray for the global community.
“We hope to broaden perspectives, shape imagination and offer learning opportunities through Passport to Culture,” said Nuk Kongkaw, coordinator of intercultural engagement. “Every year this event has grown, and we hope to continue to expand the involvement.”
The event is free of charge and open to the public. There will be many door prizes, including a free t-shirt to every one-hundredth person who attends.
