Indiana Wesleyan University will welcome back hundreds of alumni and friends on Friday, Oct. 6 and Saturday, Oct. 7 to celebrate Homecoming 2017. A wide variety of University events for students, alumni and families will take place throughout the weekend on IWU’s residential campus.
The celebration will kick off on Friday at 10 a.m. with a special chapel service recognizing IWU’s 2017 Alumni World Changer, Dr. Darrell Hermann. The 1973 alumnus was the chief pediatric surgeon at Medical City Children’s Hospital in Dallas, Texas, before retiring in December 2016. Following the service will be class reunions of ’52, ’57, ’62 and ’67; campus tours; a Homecoming Banquet; a coffeehouse music night called Crèma, featuring alumni and students, and more.
Saturday will host a variety of activities like the women’s soccer game, several alumni athletic competitions and a theatre performance of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”. There will also be a 10th anniversary celebration for 94.3 The Fortress, the University’s student-managed radio station. The station first aired on Oct. 1, 2007.
KidZone, for children 12 and under, will feature an inflatable 4-in-1 Moonwalk Combo, Extreme Adrenaline Rush Obstacle Course, a wrecking ball and a cotton candy machine. This event is free of charge and will be located at the Athletic Fields Complex on Saturday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. In case of rain, KidZone will be relocated to the Intramural Gym in the Recreation and Wellness Center. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
