The Indiana ACT Council recently selected Indiana Wesleyan University as the Indiana Career Preparedness Award recipient from among all applicants for the 2016-17 ACT College and Career Readiness Campaign. IWU was recognized specifically for its distinctive Life Calling and Career Development department, which seeks to help students explore and discern their life calling.
The Indiana Career Preparedness Award recognizes a postsecondary institution that demonstrates the following:
- Student success indicators such as retention, graduation and four-year transfer rates, particularly for underserved populations
- Strong relationships with local employers and high schools
- Opportunities for students to develop collaborative problem solving, responsibility, self-knowledge and career exploration skills
Representatives from IWU’s Life Calling and Career Development department will formally accept the award this fall at an ACT event held in Iowa City, Iowa.
“Our team is thrilled to be recognized as the winner of the Indiana Career Preparedness award,” said Carol Brown, associate dean of life calling and career development. “We are here to serve every student at Indiana Wesleyan University and count it a true joy to assist them in understanding their natural gifts.”
The Life Calling and Career Development department was established in 2012 with a mission to “enable individuals to find a higher purpose in their life that draws and guides them in all aspects of their life, equips them to make life decisions based on this purpose and empowers them to develop this purpose into world-changing leadership.” It offers students several free services including life coaching, pre-declared student advising and career development.
