Indiana Wesleyan University has won every Crossroads League All-Sports Trophy dating back to the 2002 season. IWU Athletics secured their 15th consecutive All-Sports Trophy as they once again won the recognition for the 2015-16 season.
Indiana Wesleyan compiled 126.5 points in all while Marian (Ind.) was second at 113 points and Taylor (Ind.) took third place at 103 points. The Wildcats have now won the All-Sports Award 21 times.
“IWU Athletics is committed to our four core values of Spiritual Growth, Academic Achievement, Leadership Development, and Athletic Excellence,” said IWU Director of Athletics Mark DeMichael. “Winning the Crossroads League All-Sports Trophy is reflective of that fourth core value and our commitment to a being a comprehensive athletic program that enables all of our programs to compete at a high level.”
Indiana Wesleyan also won the All-Sports Trophy in the men’s sports category and the women’s sports category. The IWU men’s teams earned 58 points to outdistance Marian with 48.5 points while the IWU women’s teams produced 68.5 points as Marian was once again second with 64.5 points.
The All-Sports Trophy is awarded annually to the school whose teams compiled the most points in the 15 league sponsored sports. Points are awarded in each sport based on the teams finish in the standings with first place receiving 10 points, second place gets nine points, third place earns eight points, etc.
The Wildcats won five Crossroads League championships this season in men’s cross country, men’s soccer, women’s tennis, women’s track and field, and volleyball.
Three more teams were runner-up. Men’s basketball, women’s cross country, and softball all placed second in their respective sport.
Men’s golf, men’s tennis, men’s track and field, women’s basketball, and women’s golf all tallied eight points for finishing in third place. Women’s soccer earned fifth place and baseball was sixth place.
