Indiana Wesleyan University and the Community Foundation of Grant County are making life-altering changes in the lives of local students as both organizations pursue a common goal to provide an affordable, local education to students of Grant County. Scholarships offered by both organizations combine to provide students the opportunity to receive a quality college education locally and at a lower cost.
This year, five local students are attending classes on IWU’s residential campus as a result of scholarships they received from both the Community Foundation and IWU.
“The partnership between IWU and the Community Foundation has been an incredible blessing to my life,” said Jourdyn Berry, one of the scholarship recipients who is a junior studying Strategic Communication and Journalism. “For the past three years, the two [organizations] have worked together to make college an affordable experience for me. There are various scholarship opportunities designed to meet the needs of local students –and for that I am forever grateful.”
The Marion High School graduate is proud to call Marion her lifelong home and strives to give back to the community through her future career in the media field, which she hopes will be focused on events and entertainment.
“Having grown up in such a special place, it is only right that I strive to give back to my community in my future endeavors,” Berry said.
To help more students like Berry achieve their dreams, the Community Foundation offers more than 130 donor-funded scholarships totaling over $500,000. All scholarship applications are due Jan. 31. To apply, visit GiveToGrant.org/scholarship.
An additional financial help is for families to file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 10 to receive full consideration for federal, state and IWU financial aid.
In addition to the Community Foundation’s scholarship opportunities, federal and state financial aid, IWU provides a variety of student scholarships. Call 765-677-6507 to speak with an IWU Admissions counselor for more information.
